SOLSC23: Brittany Margarita

(Has anybody else downloaded the new Jetpack app if using mobile device to read, write, comment for SOLSC? The landing page/dashboard offers these writing prompts – have you seen them??)

What is your middle name? Does it carry any special meaning/significance?

Margarita?!
“Your middle name is
ALCOHOL?”

Margarita?!
“Were your parents
DRUNK?”

Margarita.
I hid in shame,
me daba vergüenza.

When asked my
m i d d l e name,
I lied,
I panicked.

But then I
bloomed –
“Margarita.
In Spanish, it means
daisy.”

This is beautiful! I loved the progression from shame to embracing its beauty! ❤ I could feel your feelings so strongly the whole way, and the short lines creating a long, skinny poem made it feel like time was passing as I read!

Yes, I did download the jetpack app and saw today’s prompt. No, I don’t have a middle name, so I skipped it, although I could write about not having one. However, I LOVE your middle name! I always say if I had one, it would be margarita, but after the beverage, lol! In all seriousness though, it is one of my favorites. I love how you added that Spanish line and how you bloomed.

I love the poem about your middle name. It is awful how kids are so silly and reductive in their name-teasing, and the story in your poem, weaving together English and the Spanish of your name, is beautiful. I am glad that you have allowed yourself and your name to bloom.
