Mommy, look
what I can do
how I did it
what I made!
He is proud of his
people drawing,
animal imitation,
sticker he earned.
Hold on,
one minute
not right now
just wait!
I am distracted with
a conversation,
my phone,
an exhausting day.
Mommy, LOOOOK!
I hold on tightly
to the rules,
to what I set before me
when I should hold on
to the memories,
to what He sets before me
Hold on.
*A work in progress poem
I was guilty of telling my kids to hold on while I was doing something else. Now, my 24-year-old is coming home tonight, and I decided to cancel something instead of him waiting for me to be done with work.

I love that this is a work in progress poem, because isn’t life? Isn’t parenting? It’s all a work in progress! I particularly love the stanzas that are sort of like lists–what your son is proud of, what you are distracted by.

It is important to prioritize. Some things just shouldn’t be put on hold.

This is just a common experience and you make it beautiful and insightful. I was especially drawn to the stanza:
when I should hold on
to the memories,
to what He sets before me
Yes – hold on to those memories. They float by like a dream. Catch them and hold them dear.
