SOLSC24 || 20: Tattoo

(These prompts are keeping me in the game for this month long challenge!! I’m answering this one with a twist – really, I’m just discussing my tattoo experience ha!)

I’m not sure when I became okay with tattoos, but the “wildest” thing I’d done by the age of 22 was get a Bible verse tattoo on the curve of my foot (Romans 10:15 which says “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace” ha ha, get it…?).

Anyway, nobody told me the arch of your foot is one of the worst places to get a tattoo because of all the rubbing against socks and shoes and whatever, so it faded pretty quickly. I’d talked often about getting it touched up or even covered up (apparently, those are different things?), but I was too scared. After hours of research and an excellent artist recommendation, I scheduled my cover up… seven years after the original!

The artist and I communicated about what I wanted and what she envisioned, but she didn’t allow me to see the final product options at the risk of her art being stolen. While I understand this protection of the artist’s work, you can imagine how nervous I was to walk in that day. I fell in love with the design itself, but I was mortified about the size of the tattoo.

This was one of the most painful experiences I’ve ever endured. You see that flower petal on my ankle? I’m fairly certain I’ve never felt more pain than the moments she was tattooing that part… And I’ve birthed three kids. LOL. I’m still pleased with her work and my decision to follow through with the cover up.
