Over the last couple of years, I have prepped for March’s Slice of Life Story Challenge by doing the leg work throughout February, such as setting up draft posts and uploading featured images that mark each day of the 31-day challenge. However, February 2025 was obviously so grueling (some very, very good and some quite chaotic) that I woke up not even realizing it was already March 1st on this fine Saturday.
I decided I just couldn’t join the challenge this year after all because I feel incredibly discombobulated, but here I am eating a late dinner (second bowl of Cheerios) at 9:30 typing this post. So far, 2025 has felt like a shrug of the shoulders. I don’t know; do you prep for SOLSC? Share your tips!!
I’m so glad you decided to join after all! I’m not a prepper beyond writing my post the night before—it always gives me a little wiggle room in case I have a day when I can’t write. Keep leaning into the spontaneity and writing everyday—I’m more hopeful than ever that daily writing will be a form of therapy this month.

❤ thank you, thank you. The spontaneity freaks me out, but I think it might just be a good month to practice and lean into that.

Some days in March I have more than one idea of what to write about, so I open a post and make a title that will remind me of my idea, then save it as a draft for a day when I can’t think of what to write about. But mostly I find myself thinking differently as I go through the days of March, always taking things that just happened and thinking about how I might write about them later. It’s like I have a different perspective on my life during March!

I, too, thought I’d start preparing for the challenge in February, but it didn’t happen for me, either. Glad you joined us for another year!

Yay, so glad you’re joining! So I’ve sliced both ways: prep/pre-work and also fly by the seat of my pants spontaneity. And I think both can work and provide different experiences. Prep was really important to me in my first years of doing the challenge, but now I have confidence that I will be able to find something to write about each day–even if it’s just about how I can’t find something to write about! Sometimes if I’m winging it, I do forget all the formatting things (categories, tags, featured image) before I hit publish, but if I remember, I can just go back and edit. Honestly, shrug of the shoulders slicing seems about right this year, doesn’t it??

Glad to see you decided to post. My prepping for this challenge in to not prep at all. Tat explains why there is sometimes some weird stuff posted on my blog.

You completed day 1! Prior to yesterday, the most prep I did was to think about what I should do to prep. Since I have 280 notes on my phone that I want to either delete or develop, I decided that I had already prepped enough. Hopefully, I will pull from my notes on the days when I need inspiration.

I didn’t prep this year either because I also was on the fence about joining. After many many years of being part of this community in March though, I also felt like I would be missing something important.
Usually, I think of something that day or the day before to write and let my intuition lead. I also pay attention to formats and ideas that other people do that I enjoy as well. I copy a link for myself (and to give credit when I do use it) and write up a little bit of my idea in a draft post. Sometimes they sit there for years, and sometimes I use several in a row.
I also take notes throughout my day for general writing so I will reference those as well like Julie mentioned.

Hi Britt, it has been a long February for my family. I was all set to start in with a bouncy attitude after trying to write to the tune of a space prompt in Laura Shovan’s February Writing Challenge. I did my best with that one and will try again to connect with slicers during this month. It is good to read that there are others who also have bumpy starts.

Dear Britt,
First and foremost – I love this post! It feels unfiltered and authentic, two of my favorite characteristics. There are numerous smaller things I like too – like the second bowl of Cheerios for your late-night dinner). It conveys beautiful imagery that can inform us about your personality and demeanor. I think you just might be funny (ha ha ha).
One of the things that has helped me post is writing from pictures taken in my phone. I seldom take a picture of anything that’s not meaningful or significant to me in some way. Choosing any one of them to is an immediate source of inspiration. Perhaps it will catalyze a great post for you, too! We’ll see.
Great luck on your journey!
With Warmest Regards,
