Hands
He looks around, swiveling his head from one side to the other. He slowly lifts his right hand – pauses – before swatting his brother. “Elías! No le pegues a tu hermano!”
My right hand holds a knife midair as my left hand swivels the papaya I’m cutting up. Gabriel darts his eyes over to me, unfazed by his brother’s swatting. Later, Elías hands me a diaper – “I help you, mami” – and caresses his brother’s head before I place Gabi in the crib. Elías convinces me to sit down for one more episode of Blippi before bed, interlocking his fingers into mine.
l love the subject focus and the challenge to stay on topic with 100 words. Your slice says so much with so few words. And I’m left with lots of questions and wanting to know more.

I love your descriptive post about a specific body part with many different uses. The visual of “interlocking his fingers into mine” is so sweet!

I have been studying 100 word stories from a book I recently bought. I haven’t written one yet, but I am sure they are harder than it seems. I love the way the title adds so much to your story! A wonderful capture of small moments.

I like the idea of telling a complete story told in 100 words. It really shows the importance of word choice. This would be a good writing exercise for students.
