Welp, I woke up totally uninspired to write anything, so I decided to just let the day play out and write once an idea came to mind. Instead, I fretted all day about this idea, that idea, this idea….
I looked through my photos because I like to write alongside pictures, but nothing called out to me. I scrolled through some poems I’ve drafted, but I decided none were really worth sharing. I googled “National Day calendar” and discovered today is National Sons Day and National Grammar Day, but I didn’t know where to go with those even though there is plenty to say as 1) a boy mom and 2) an English teacher.
It’s my last day of maternity leave, so I wanted to enjoy a relaxing yet productive day. Nerves got the better of me by late afternoon – it was Sunday scaries to the max!! For some reason, it feels like the first day of school tomorrow?! Why am I this nervous!!?
Enjoy your day! It’s always that little butterflies-in-the-stomach feeling when you start a former activity up again after some time. You’ll be fine! Breathe! (And have FUN!)

I felt the same about writing today, but for totally different reasons.
I’m sure you have a lot on your mind about heading back after maternity leave. I did that about 38 years ago. What I remember most about that time was I going to the bathroom and realizing I was wearing my shirt wrongside out. I found out how much i needed uninterrupted sleep. I wish you the best as you return.

Britt, I did not know you were on maternity leave so Congratulations! Going back to work is difficult when you have a little one. Your idea for this slice is a precious one. Rightfully so you should enjoy as much time with your child as possible. You wrote your slice with a bit of intrigue. I hope to see you during this challenge and hear more about your new addition.

The end of maternity leave is the worst. All the anxiety about going back! That’s probably why you felt uninspired – the day felt too looming, too much build up. I hope going back is easier than you expect, and joyful, too!

Sunday scaries to the max indeed! I hope your first day back was a good one! I have had those kind of writing days too–somehow nothing that usually works for me will work.

Going back to work after summer vacation is hard. I can’t imagine how difficult it would to go back after maternity leave. Hope you had a good first day back. I’m sure each of your children got a extra special hug at the end of the day.
