On this World Poetry Day, I played with erasure poetry as inspired by another slicer. The text I used from “You Are a Writer” by Jeff Goins is below – thanks for sharing it, Jen!
a writer is born
she comes with a destiny:
share her words,
proclaim a message
move, motivate
shake earth,
rattle heavens
writing –
we get to choose it
(or not)
every single day
whether world hears message,
whether you leave impact –
entirely up to you
scary, isn’t it?

I love the poem you created from that page. It speaks to me deeply. Thank you for sharing it. I am happy to be sharing and reading words with you.

Clear, concise, to the point. I have not tried this, but I really like the format. Your poem hits all of the highlights in the passage.

I like that it is a choice. Sometimes we want be heard and other times we want to keep quiet. It’s a choice. Lovely poem, glad you chose to write it.

Thanks for sharing. I like the repetition in the final stanza.
I’m doing this with my students this week; it’s always a hit.

I love this – sounds like the first cousin to blackout poetry. I’ll have to give this a spin! – I’m also going to have to share this passage (and perhaps the book as well) with my students. Thank you!

“A writer is born.”
Such power in that first sentence, in those first words. And that choice, we make it, every single day.
Thanks for sharing your poem and the passage. 🙂

Such power in this, Britt! For there’s such power in writing. Sometimes I think writing chooses me. I am always in awe of where it leads me. It’s a battle with fear sometimes, yes…and an act of faith that always comes through. Endlessly fascinating, writing.
